Police charge man found in road

A man found lying in the road between Tamaqua and Coaldale has been charged.

Police said Shane Z. Smith, 37, of West Patterson Street, Lansford, was lying in the middle of the road on the No. 11 Hill.

He has been charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.

Tamaqua police said they were responding to a fight at Freddy’s Pub at 3:03 a.m. Dec. 1 when an officer saw him.

Police made a U-turn to go back to the scene and found Smith in an intoxicated state.

Police said after ascertaining there were no warrants against Smith, they took him home.
