Police investigating third arson in Polk
Police are investigating a string of arsons at vacant homes in Polk Township.
Early Monday morning, a house caught fire at 8775 Twin Lake Drive in Robin Hood Lakes development.
The fire broke out at the single-story ranch at 1:30 a.m. Polk Fire Chief Billy Tippett said that three-quarters of the roof was on fire when firefighters arrived. The fire stayed above the ceiling light in the attic.
“We extinguished the fire, overhauled it,” said Tippett.
It had been vacant for several years and was for sale, police said of the property.
The home, valued at $60,000, sustained major damage, but no injuries were reported.
Other Polk arsons were reported on Sept. 11 at 4862 Queens Way, and in July.
