Police looking for information on driver in Monroe fatal hit-run

Police are looking for the driver who struck and killed a man along a Monroe County road last weekend.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said they are seeking the driver of the suspect vehicle which they were able to identify by evidence left at the scene.

The fatal incident occurred on Saturday at 9:56 p.m. along Route 611, between the Five Points intersection and Wendy’s restaurant. Police said John Walpole, 55, of Hawley, was walking southbound near the shoulder of the road when he was struck by a passing vehicle. The driver then fled the scene.

Walpole as taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono, East Stroudsburg, where he died from his injuries on Sunday.

Police said theinvestigation led them to believe the hit-and-run vehicle is a dark gray 2011-2017 Toyota Sienna minivan. The van would have damage to the passenger’s side headlight, windshield and side view mirror and may have damage to the passenger’s side front fender.
