Police report on area crashes
Police report on the following crashes throughout the region:
• A 2006 Jeep Cherokee operated by Megan L. Porucznik, 36, of Philadelphia, was towed from the scene of a crash at 3:16 p.m. Dec. 14 on Interchange Road (Route 209) in Towamensing Township.
State police at the Lehighton barracks said she was not injured.
Police said she was traveling too fast for conditions behind a vehicle that stopped in front of her in an attempt to turn into a parking lot. Porucznik was unable to stop in time and swerved off the roadway onto the north shoulder when the vehicle struck a utility pole.
She was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed, police said.
• Gleta J. Cremers, 63, of Effort, was cited by state police at the Lehighton barracks after a one-vehicle crash at 7:59 a.m. Dec. 16 along Scenic Drive (Route 534) in Polk Township. She was not injured.
Police said she was driving a 2018 Buick Encore northbound when she lost control of the vehicle and it struck a guide rail. Police said the car sustained heavy damages to its passenger side, rendering it disabled. It needed to be towed from the scene.
Police said Cremers told them she fell asleep at the wheel.
• State police at Fogelsville barracks said no one was hurt when a vehicle driven by a Palmerton man was struck by a car at 9:25 p.m. Dec. 3 on Interstate 78 in Weisenberg Township.
Police said a Chevrolet Impala and a 2019 Kenworth Northwest operated by Timothy J. Stoeckel, 32, of Palmerton, were westbound on the interstate when the Impala failed to maintain its lane and hit the left side of the Kenworth Northwest. Police said the driver of the Impala continued westbound into Berks County.
The other driver was not named by police.
• Anahi Martine Mendiola, 31, of Slatington, was cited by state police at Fogelsville after a crash at 2:38 a.m. Dec. 14 on Smith Hill Road in Washington Township. She was not injured.
Police said she was driving a 2016 Honda Civic northbound and was traveling too fast for rainy conditions when she lost control of the vehicle while going around a left curve in the road. Police said the vehicle traveled off the right shoulder of Smith Hill Road, striking a mailbox, and then continued off an elevated embankment into a grass field before coming to rest.
The car was towed from the scene.
