Polk continues work on nuisance ordinance

Published July 25. 2019 01:08PM

The Polk Township supervisors are steadily progressing with a nuisance ordinance. They are now moving it forward to the planning commission to have a work session.

The ordinance is partly based off Chestnuthill’s nuisance guidelines. The main sections of the ordinance are based on junk, vehicles, unsanitary or dangerous material, dangerous premises, vegetation and noise.

The supervisors’ biggest concern with the ordinance is to make sure each section is enforceable.

Overall, the public reaction was satisfied with the progression of the ordinance. Their main concerns originally were about decibel levels and junk.

“Originally, it was written by the planning commission members,” Secretary Rebecca Tippett said. “And it was sent to the supervisors and now it’s being sent back to the planning commission.”

The township is also working on the walking park. It will be located next to the Polk municipal building. It was noted in the April 22 meeting that 100 bare-root trees will be planted for the park.

The road crew will be focusing on paving Mertz Road and Dotters Corner Road.
