Polk Township makes offer to buy lot
The Polk Township supervisors agreed Monday evening to make an offer of $20,000 to purchase a 0.43-acre lot at the corner of Polk Township Road and Route 209 (Interchange Road).
The lot is adjacent to a much-larger tract already belonging to the township and would be needed if the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation decides to realign Route 209 and the intersections of Polk Township Road and Silver Springs Boulevard.
The township nature park took a bit of a beating with the storms last week and a planned project to identify and remove invasive shrubs was put on hold temporarily. The nature park has a number of trees down along the trails, and township chairman and roadmaster Brian Ahner and his crews have their hands full with dealing with trees down along roads before venturing into the park.
August Randazzo of Boy Scout Troop 109 has volunteered to identify and remove the invasive species and to replant native shrubbery as part of his William T. Hornaday Conservation Award project.
The revised dates for the project are Aug. 4 for the removing of invasive plants and Aug. 12 for the planting of native plants.
Randazzo is still looking for volunteers to assist in the project. Anyone interested should contact him at 646-522-9149. Lunch will be provided. Randazzo cautions those who are interested to dress accordingly since they might be exposed to poison ivy, ticks and thorns.
The township agreed to post 35 mph signs along Smith Road, from Rustic Road to Dotters Corner Road in the Camp Harlam area. Pedestrians’ ahead signs were also posted. This is in response to concerns for campers who cross the road in those areas while camp is in session.
The township will also be looking into setting a speed limit on Floyd Road, which is currently unmarked.
The township has hired William Tippett for the road crew. Tippett is the fire chief at the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company. Tippett will be paid $20 per hour.
