Polk Township receives grant for recycling center
The Polk Township Solid Waste and Recycling Center received a grant for over $150,000 from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to buy a forklift baler and box truck and to build an extension to their recycling center with a loading dock.
The forklift has already arrived and the township is ordering the rest of the equipment this month, said Chairman Brian Ahner.
The new loading dock will give the township a way to load tractor-trailers with the recycled materials, Ahner said. Up until now, the township has had to haul materials to Chestnuthill Township and use their loading docks to load tractor-trailers.
The new extension will also serve as storage space for the bales of recycled materials, said Treasurer Beverly Christman.
The extension should be completed by snowfall, Ahner said.
