Three new fire police were sworn in Monday night during the Polk Township supervisors meeting. They are part of Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company.

Gary Huber, Fernando Assis and Joel Kingsbury were sworn in and thanked for their willingness to volunteer and given a certificate.

Anyone interested in volunteering with the fire station in Kresgeville or Kunkletown can get more information by calling 610-681-4370, email at polkfire35info@gmail.com or check out their website at www.polkfire35.org. There are a variety of ways to volunteer for men and women.

In other business, the township plans to conduct a speed study on Scheller Hill. Supervisors’ Chairman Brian Ahner said some residents have expressed concern about the speed of traffic on the road. The results will be made known once the study is completed.

The township sold its 2001 Ford F-550 dump truck for $14,200 on Municibids.

“We’re pretty impressed with that,” Ahner said.

Ahner suggested that the township sell two propane forklifts and a paving roller, since they have a new paving roller. The supervisors approved of the sale. Ahner will place these items on Municibids soon. He said there are more items he thinks the township can sell, but didn’t list them at the meeting.

The supervisors also approved of the sale of a parcel of land on Interchange Road for $25,500. Timothy Fisher was the sole bidder. He lives beside the lot.

Ahner said the funds from the sale will go into the general fund and could be used for parks, but a specific project or need has not been earmarked for the funds.

Supervisor Carl Heckman said the Solid Waste and Recycling Center has a loading dock now and is in need of a dock leveler and safety gate. The township received one bid for $6,554.51 from Action Lift in Pittston for the project. Action Lift said the bid includes the cost of the items and labor to install them. The supervisors approved their bid.

In conjunction with the Solid Waste and Recycling Center, new permits for the will be available beginning March 1.
