Prison workers recognized
Nearly 31,000 men and women work in a correctional facility in Pennsylvania.
During the week of May 6 through 12, Gov. Tom Wolf wants to recognize those who oversee the approximately 95,000 inmates at the state’s 24 state correctional institutions, one motivational boot camp, one training academy, 11 community corrections centers, 32 contract facilities, 63 county prisons and 15 federal facilities and offices.
In Carbon County, 59 people make up the staff at the county correctional facility.
On Wednesday, the county prison board voted to approve Wolf’s proclamation naming May 6 through 12 as Corrections Employee Week.
In other matters, the prison board voted to write a letter of support for Pathstone, who is applying for a community-based organizations grant to help with the quality of services provided to the inmates as part of the Re-entry program.
The Community Inmate Work program is also starting up again for the season. Municipalities interested in having eligible inmates help with projects can call Frank Shubeck at the prison.
