Rain causes flooding in parts of Schuylkill County

The Schuylkill County Emergency Management Agency is reporting that parts of the county have flooded due to heavy rainfall the county has experience throughout the night and early morning.

As of 9:12 a.m., the municipalities affected by this rainfall include: Port Carbon, Pine Grove, Tremont, Pottsville, Frackville, Gilberton, Tower City, St. Clair, Frailey Township, Porter Township and surrounding areas.

Residents in low-lying areas are being evacuated and are being relocated to temporary shelters.

Pine Grove has opened its shelter at the Pine Grove High School with assistance from the American Red Cross.
