Notes ... We got a head-to-head meeting between Newton and Coccio at the Schuylkill League Tournament, with Newton getting an 8-1 decision in the third-place match. ... There was also a head-to-head matchup at 126 pounds at the Schuylkill League Tournament between Kemmerer and Demetriades, which Kemmerer won 9-7 to advance to the third-place match. Still, it was a strong showing for Demetriades over the weekend to finish fifth and reenter the rankings this week. ... An interesting note from the 132-pound bracket at the Schuylkill League Tournament. Tamaqua’s Caleb Sell (6-7), who is not ranked, pinned Sangiuliano, a regional qualifier and district finalist a year ago, in 2:16 to reach the third-place match. Sell placed fourth, while Sangiuliano battled back for fifth. ... In another interesting — and exciting — contest at the Schuylkill League Tournament, Pagotto used a late score to top Mader 3-1 for third-place at 138 pounds. ... Krell jumps ahead of Rodriguez at 170 after pinning him in the consolation round at the Schuylkill League Tournament. ... There is a little bit of movement at 182 pounds this week, with Beckham jumping to the No. 1 spot ahead of Williams, who failed to reach the medal round at the Schuylkill League Tournament. There were no head-to-head meetings between Beckham, Williams or Zimmerman over the weekend. ... The matchup between Strouse and Gasker finally materialized over the weekend. Strouse pinned Gasker in the semifinals before winning the 220-pound title. Gasker placed sixth. ... Palmerton’s Lucas Christman and Matt Lalik both posted a 2-0 marks last week. Kyle Kralik recorded a technical fall Monday night against Wilson’s Austin Wickham. ... The top-three held firm at 145. Christman continues to roll, and Whiteman captured a Schuylkill League title over the weekend. Despite losing by major decision to Saucon Valley’s Justin Kyra on Monday, Rex, a state qualifier a year ago, remains in the top spot — for now.
