Remodeled Aldi store big hit with shoppers
Bigger selection.
Wider aisles.
Better lighting.
Shoppers who meandered their way through the newly remodeled Aldi store along Route 443 in Lehighton during the store’s soft-reopening Friday morning agreed.
The store’s new features were appealing, both from an aesthetic and functional point of view.
Kerry Klinger Sr. and his wife, Gertrude Klinger, of New Ringgold, said they are regulars at the store.
Both were in agreement that they liked what they saw.
“It’s beautiful,” Gertrude said. “The aisles are opened wide. It’s lit up really well.”
Kerry added, “They did a nice job.”
An aisle down, Bill and Marie Klotz of Mahoning Valley took in the store’s new amenities.
“It’s nice and wide,” Marie said.
Caitlin Thompson of Jim Thorpe, was equally impressed.
“It’s a lot bigger. The aisles are wider,” Thompson said. “They said no one would believe how nice it would be once they reopened; they were right.”
Closed since November for remodeling work, the store now features five aisles compared to four; an expanded line of fresh produce, dairy and bakery products; open ceilings; and LED lighting.
In February, Aldi announced an aggressive $1.6 billion investment in its stores, with an extensive plan to remodel and expand more than 1,300 U.S. stores by the end of 2020.
The Lehighton remodel was included within this national Aldi remodel plan.
Aldi will hold its grand reopening Jan. 4.
