State police at Fern Ridge said Gamini Dissanayake, 65, of Staten Island, New York, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol after a complainant flagged down an officer to make him aware of a person driving erratically.

The incident happened at 6:49 p.m. March 24 at the intersection of Hetter Lane and Route 115 in Tunkhannock Township.

Police said the complainant initially called the barracks to report a vehicle was swerving all over the road. After the caller flagged down the officer and provided information about the incident, police observed Dissanayake in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Gulf Service Station in Tobyhanna Township.

Police said they detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.

He failed field sobriety tests. The driver was transported to the Monroe County DUI Center for processing and a blood test.
