The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin work on a $494,944 project to resurface two roads in Carbon County.

Broadway/West Broadway in Jim Thorpe will be resurfaced between Route 209 and High Street; and Rockport Road in Lehigh Township will be resurfaced between Lehigh Gorge Drive and the Lehigh Gorge State Park.

The contractor will begin work today to construct new Americans with Disability Act compliant curb ramps on Broadway/West Broadway. Traffic will not be affected.

However, later this spring motorists should expect lane restrictions during the resurfacing phase of this project.

New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. Inc. of New Enterprise is the general contractor on the project, which is expected to be complete in June.

Broadway/West Broadway has an average daily traffic volume of 1,190 vehicles, and Rockport Road has an average daily traffic volume of 112 vehicles.

Comments
Usually improvements are a step backwards regarding Penn Dot. Mark my words; Jim Thorpe will come up with a plan to replace the gas and sewer lines right after work is completed. I've seen that so many times and always wonder why the Borough and Penn Dot officials are so inept.
