Wear some flowers in your hair while you revel in Northampton Community College’s reprise of the rock musical “Hair,” under the direction of Bill Mutimer, associate professor of communication/theater.

The musical debuted off-Broadway 50 years ago, the same month NCC opened.

The musical explores issues of racism in America, poverty, the generation gap, sexual liberation and the anti-war movement. Considered controversial at the time, the themes and the way they are presented are still relevant to the present.

“Hair” tells the story of a group of politically active, longhair hippies of the “Age of Aquarius” living a Bohemian life in New York City and fighting against conscription into the Vietnam War.

Performances will be held 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19, 20 and 21 and 3 p.m. Oct. 22 in NCC’s Lipkin Theatre, Kopecek Hall, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem.

Admission is free with a donation of a nonperishable food item. Parental discretion is advised.
