Ross Township to hire Hanson for roadwork

Published May 07. 2019 01:34PM

Ross Township supervisors reviewed roadwork bids from four businesses during their monthly meeting Monday evening.

Hanson Aggregates Pennsylvania LLC, Bracalente Construction, Bruce George Paving & Excavating and the H&K Group Inc. submitted bids.

The bid was to pave and line paint Ruby Court, Hickory Drive, Maple Terrace, Laurel Lane, Daniel Court, Dove Court, Dana Drive, Aspen Lane and Antler Lane.

Supervisors went through each bid and cited the cost per ton of materials and line painting per mile.

Hanson had the lowest prices, at $84 per ton of materials and 28 cents per foot of line painting.

The motion passed to hire Hanson.

“Now we have decided what roads to do. There is about $289,000 in the liquid fuels account to spend,” said Chairman Howard A. Beers Jr.

When they advertised the roadwork last month, they had planned to pick and choose roads to do to stay within their budget. To do all the roads would cost about $317,000.

Supervisor David Shay suggested not doing Antler Drive, which would save about $13,000.

The supervisors said they could move this road to the top of next year’s roadwork list.

They were considering deleting Aspen Lane as well when Beers asked, “Do we want to take any money from the general fund to do these two roads — Aspen Lane and Antler Drive?”

Beers said he was willing to take $28,000 from the general fund if the other two supervisors agreed.

Drake motioned to do all the roads listed in the bid and to use the liquid fuels funds first and the remainder from the general fund. Shay seconded the motion.

Beers said the roadwork will begin in June, after school is done for the year. All the roadwork will be completed before school resumes in late August, he said.

• Drake announced they have only received a few resumes for the part-time secretary job opening. Drake asked if she and full-time secretary Doris Price could work together to post the job announcement on Indeed.com. Beers and Shay agreed to post the job listing.

• The pavilion will soon have an actual “reserved” sign in place, instead of just a paper sign when it is reserved for use. The pavilion costs $35 for Ross residents and $70 for nonresidents. It costs an extra $10 to use the electric and water.

• Supervisors voted to donate $75 to the Friends of Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuge. They donated $75 in 2017. No donation was made in 2018.
