Ross Township to hire part-time secretary

Published April 03. 2019 12:35PM

Ross Township supervisors voted Monday evening to advertise for a part-time secretary.

The part-time secretary will work two days a week in the office, for 7.5 hours a day at the rate of $13 per hour.

This secretary will also attend the planning commission’s monthly meeting, held the third Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Doris Price, who has been the full-time secretary for 22 years, will train the part-time person.

Sharon Steen was the former part-time secretary. She retired after about a decade of working at the township office, Price said.

Chairman Howard Beers Jr. and Vice Chairman Tina Drake voted in favor of hiring someone. Supervisor David Shay voted nay.

“We need someone to do the planning commission meeting, but not someone part-time in the township office,” Shay said.

Drake complimented Price’s secretarial duties and noted that she does not have time for this extra work, and she does not want to do the planning commission meetings.

“I think Doris does a great job,” Drake said.

Price attends the supervisors’ meetings. She takes notes and answers supervisors’ questions about such things as budget and decisions made at previous meetings, based on records she has kept.

Drake also reminded everyone that Price will eventually retire, and they should prepare now by hiring this part-time person.

Beers agreed, “I do think we need to someone to fill this spot.”
