Ross Township to purchase new truck

Published February 07. 2019 01:06PM

Township supervisors approved the purchase a new truck during their monthly meeting Monday evening.

“We are budgeted for this,” said Supervisor David Shay.

Before voting on the purchase, road foreman Ethan Brewer shared prices and specifications on three options. He had been researching trucks for a couple months.

The Mack truck for about $100,000 was quickly struck from the list due to its price tag.

Supervisors took some time to compare the remaining two options, a Freightliner for $85,300 and a Peterbilt for $85,500.

They selected the latter due to the closer proximity of the service department.

“The truck will mainly be used for snowplowing and road maintenance,” said Vice Chairman Tina Drake.

Brewer said that once he places the order, it will take about nine months for the township to receive it. The color of the truck is to be determined.

In other business, supervisors:

• Announced spring cleanup will be April 26 and 27, pending the hiring of a new waste hauler. Previously, they used Chrin in Easton. Chrin is not doing it this year, Drake said. Residents may bring furniture to dispose. They may not bring household garbage or recyclables.

• Announced a permit-free townshipwide yard sale will be held May 4, starting at 9 a.m.

• Secretary-Treasurer Doris Price and Bernie Kozen, executive director of West End Park and Open Space Commission, will work together on a grant application for Monroe County Open Space funds to refurbish the walking trail at the township park.

They will also work together on a Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant to move the one-room schoolhouse on Flyte Road to the township park. Supervisor Shay said he would call someone in Lancaster who moves buildings to find out costs and other details, and he would do some other research on this matter. Township supervisors have been talking about moving the schoolhouse for a while, Shay said.
