Running of the Dawgs planned for Saturday

Published April 13. 2018 11:47AM

The forecast for Saturday calls for temperatures to be around the 80-degree mark.

Sounds like the perfect time to come out and support this year’s Running of the Dawgs.

Sponsored by the Northern Lehigh Education Foundation, the annual event will again be held at Bulldog Community Stadium, 1 Bulldog Lane, Slatington.

Registration is at 7:30 a.m. The 1-Mile Fun Run starts at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m.

The post race features awards, a drawing, and dog costume judging.

Awards will be given by way of 5K run prizes to first-, second- and third-place overall male/female, and in other various categories.

Dogs are also welcome to come in costume, and there will be an award given for best dog costume.

Proceeds from the event will go to educational enrichment programs within the school district, according to Bill Danish, director of the event.

“It’s a fun event,” said Danish, treasurer of the Northern Lehigh Education Foundation. “We’re hoping it brings the community together a little bit, getting them out, getting them to know our name and what we’re all about.”
