Running of the Dawgs set for Saturday

It’s time to pound the pavements in support of this year’s Running of the Dawgs.

Sponsored by the Northern Lehigh Education Foundation, the annual event will be held Saturday at Bulldog Community Stadium, 1 Bulldog Lane, Slatington.

Registration is at 7:30 a.m. The 1-Mile Fun Run starts at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m.

The post race features awards, a drawing and dog costume judging.

Awards will be given by way of 5K run prizes to first-, second- and third-place overall male/female, and in other various categories.

Dogs are also welcome to come in costume, and there will be an award given for best dog costume.

Proceeds from the event will go to educational enrichment programs within the school district, said Bill Danish, treasurer of the Northern Lehigh Education Foundation.

“It’s about supporting the Northern Lehigh Education Foundation,” Danish said. “In turn, we then support our school district.”

Danish, who also serves as event coordinator, added, “It’s about getting out into the community and seeing what the organization is all about.

“Hopefully people come out and support us, see what we’re about. Hopefully it will be nice.”
