Russo picked for national All-Star Game

Melissa Russo, a senior at Gwynedd Mercy University, was selected to the Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Senior All-Star Game, becoming the third Griffin to be chosen.

Russo, a Pleasant Valley graduate, was leading all of Division III in goals (29), points (69), goals per game (1.93), points per game (4.60), and is ranked tied for second in assists (11) and third in assists per game (0.73).

This year’s game takes place on Nov.18 at 5 p.m. on the campus of Bellarmine University in Kentucky. Russo is one of 72 student-athletes selected in all of Division III. Sixty were chosen, along with 12 alternates. Russo is the lone representative from the CSAC named to the participant list.

The Griffins (13-3, 6-0 CSAC) defeated Marywood on Saturday to lock up the top playoff seed in the conference.
