Samuels helps break ESU relay record

Published May 11. 2018 02:30PM

Pleasant Valley graduate Khai Samuels was part of the East Stroudsburg University 4x800-meter relay team that recently set a school record.

Samuels, who was the 2015 Times News Male Track Athlete of the Year, joined with Nick Fanelle, Mike Sheptuk and Nathan Wojick to run a 7:39.18 at the PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Coming into the season, the top Warriors time in the event was a 7:41.19 set in 2013.

The new time would have also been a new conference record, however ESU only finished second in the event, as IUP’s mark of 7:39.12 bettered the Warriors by just six-hundredths of a second. The old PSAC meet record had been 7:41.44 from 2015.

Samuels, now a junior, also placed seventh at the PSAC meet in the 800 with a time of 1:54.15.

During the year, the former Bear also ran the 1,500. His best time in the event was a 4:04.41.
