Dr. Dawn Mriss, owner of the Lehighton and St. Francis Animal Hospitals, motions toward her dog, Maverick, an English Labrador retriever, while speaking to the fourth-grade classes at the Lehighton Area Elementary Center on Tuesday afternoon. Maverick had one of his hind legs removed for orthopedic reasons and gets around with the help of a wheelchair.
