Schuylkill authority introduces new bus route today
The Schuylkill County Transportation Authority will be introducing to the public its brand-new fixed route #80 Southern Loop today.
The first bus heads out of Union Station in Pottsville 10 a.m. with two other departure times of Noon and 2 p.m. respectfully.
Return times to Union Station in Pottsville from the Hamburg Tilden Ridge Complex are scheduled for 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Key stops along this particular route include the borough of Schuylkill Haven, the Department of Motor Vehicles; the borough of Orwigsburg, the Geisinger Medical Building, the new Geisinger/St. Luke’s Hospital, the Tilden Ridge Complex at Walmart, the Strip Mall in the Complex, Logan’s Steak House, Cabela’s, Red Robin and will even make a connection at Cabela’s with Berks Area Regional Transportation Authority for passengers to ride into the city of Reading.
The Schuylkill Transportation System is kicking off this new route by offering passengers the opportunity to ride for free this week through Friday.
Executive Director Dave Bekisz and Director of Operations Gary Martinaitis believe the new route will compliment and work well in conjunction with the opening of St. Luke’s/Geisinger hospital and the influx of new business and shopping opportunities in the Hamburg area.
Service and Support Coordinator Joan Breslin said that passengers have been inquiring about this new route for quite some time and the schedules have been “flying out the door.”
