Schuylkill Commissioners prepping for changes

Published May 29. 2019 12:39PM

With eyes to the pending retirement of Schuylkill County Chief Assessor Virginia Murray, the Commissioners are helping the office prep staff by approving training.

“We want to make sure we have a smooth transition,” Chairman George Halcovage said last week. “We’re blessed to have good employees ready to move up and keep the office running efficiently.”

The commissioners have approved transfers for Tax Assessment/Tax Claim employees Angela Toomey and Denise McGinley-Gerchak. Toomey was tax claim director and will transfer to interim chief assessor/tax claim director; McGinley-Gerchak was assistant director of tax claim and will transfer to interim assistant director tax assessment/tax claim. The positions were created for training purposes and there will be no increase in wages during training.

In other action, the commissioners approved:

A Brokerage Service Agreement for Insurance Placement and Risk Management Administration between the county and McGriff Insurance Services Inc., for one year beginning June 1 and expiring May 31, 2020 at a rate of $28,581.

A service agreement for administration of self-insurance workers’ compensation between the county and Inservco Insurance Services, Inc. for three years beginning July 1 and expiring June 30, 2022 at $14,751 per year.

A 36-month lease with Dell Financial Services for the purchase and installation of CAD Hardware for the county’s 911 Communication Center at a rate of $3,744.35 per month.

A 36-month agreement with Candoris Technologies, Annville, for managed services of CAD Hardware at a cost of $3,314 per month for the county’s 911 Communications Center.

During public comment, the commissioners heard from Lynn Wuestner of Hummelstown, who accused the board of not responding to emails she had sent about a year ago regarding a complaint she had involving Register of Wills Theresa Santai-Gaffney.

County Solicitor Al Marshall responded, advising Wuestner that she was talking about a private matter, advising her to refrain from allegations, and adding that the commissioners had responded properly by referring her to the solicitor’s office.
