Schuylkill County court – DUI
Schuylkill County President Judge William E. Baldwin has sentenced two people charged by local police with driving under the influence.
Both men pleaded guilty.
Jose Abreu, 47, of Reading, Berks County, was charged by Rush Township police with DUI, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana, speeding, failing to keep right and careless driving on Nov. 29, 2015.
Baldwin sentenced Abreu to one to five years in state prison, fined him $2,500 on the DUI charge, and $25 each for speeding and failing to stay right.
Abreu was also ordered to pay court costs and fees, obtain substance abuse counseling, and perform 10 hours of community service.
The careless driving and marijuana charges were dropped.
Eshawn W. Harrell, 24, of Hazleton, was charged by McAdoo police with DUI, windshield obstruction, failing to have a driver’s license, failing to list his change of address, and an alcoholic beverage restriction on May 26, 2014.
Baldwin sentenced him to time served to six months in jail on the DUI charge.
He also fined Harrell $1,000 on the DUI, and $25 each for the windshield and change of address charges. Harrell must also pay court costs and fees and perform 20 hours of community service.
The license and alcohol restriction charges were dropped.
