A Hazleton man will serve up to 23 months in jail for shoplifting.
Matthew Logan, 27, was charged by Rush Township police with retail theft, criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property on Sept. 8, 2017.
He pleaded guilty to retail theft and conspiracy. Schuylkill County Judge Jacqueline L. Russell sentenced him to 16 days to 23 months on the charges, with immediate parole. She also ordered him to pay Walmart $207.59 restitution and to perform 20 hours of community service.
Russell ordered Logan to obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and to stay out of the store.
In other cases, Russell sentenced Michael Swartz, 64, of Mahanoy City, to 12 months on probation, to perform 20 hours of community service, and to obtain and drug and alcohol evaluation on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
Swartz was charged by McAdoo police on Jan. 25. A charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was dropped.
She sentenced Jonathon W. Fegley, 47, of Mahanoy City, to six months on probation and 20 hours of community service.
Fegley was charged by McAdoo police with driving under the influence, driving the wrong way and careless driving on Sept. 30, 2017.
Russell also fined him $300, ordered him to enroll in Alcohol Highway Safety School, and to perform 20 hours of community service.
She fined him $25 on the charge of driving the wrong way.
The charge of careless driving was dropped.
Russell sentenced Rodney A. Beck, 46, of Allentown, to 23 months on probation and 20 hours of community service on charges of simple assault and disorderly conduct.
Beck was charged by McAdoo police with riot, criminal conspiracy, simple assault, corruption of minors, disorderly conduct and harassment on July 26, 2017.
He pleaded guilty to the assault and conduct charges. The remaining charges were dropped.
In other court rulings, Judge Charles M. Miller revoked the probation of David R. Green, 66, of Tamaqua.
Green was charged by Tamaqua police with trespassing at Boyer’s Food Market on May 27, 2017.
He pleaded guilty on June 13 to defiant trespass, and Miller sentenced him to six months on probation.
But Green violated the terms when he was charged with another crime, and Miller sentenced him to up to 12 months in jail with immediate parole.
