Schuylkill County prepares for Election Day
Schuylkill County commissioners are getting ready for the election on Nov. 6.
Frannie Brennan, director of the Schuylkill County Election Bureau, put forth 12 names and positions for consideration. The county will have two rovers to travel the county on Election Day for the purpose of logistics and accuracy.
Edward Lizewski of Pine Grove and Timothy Wood will fill those roles pending official approval by the commissioners. Those positions pay $10 per hour and 54.5 cents per mile travel expenses.
The commissioners will also consider four people for the position of resolution board members. These positions will settle any disputes regarding ballots on Election Day. The positions pay a flat $100 for the day. Jeanne Porter, George Moyer, Edward Barket and Michael Vigoda are slated to fill these positions.
Finally, six people will serve as computing board members charged with computation and canvassing of the election returns. The positions pay $70 for the day. Those positions will be filled by Joann Myers, James Klock, Susan Kester, Rose Kern, Sharon Chiao and Thomas O’Neill, pending board approval.
None of the people who will be hired for Election Day have any relation to the commissioners, Brennan said.
Brennan also stressed that the last day to apply for an absentee ballot is Oct 30.
“We mail them out the same day we receive them,” she said. “They have to be back at the courthouse by Nov. 2.”
In other business, the commissioners discussed a Homeland Security grant program for the East Central Task Force in the amount of $922,876. The funds will be used to support planning, training, exercises, equipment, maintenance and administrative functions of the ECTF.
The commissioners will also consider an extension for the completion of a demolition project at 7 E. Grand Ave. in Tower City. The new deadline will be Oct 28.
