Schuylkill crashes
State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on two crashes investigated by troopers along Schuylkill County roads recently.
A two-vehicle crash was reported at 10:56 a.m. on May 31 at the intersection of Market and East Norwegian streets in Port Carbon. Troopers said Kathleen M. Houser, 54, of New Philadelphia, was driving a 2001 Dodge Neon eastbound on East Norwegian Street and failed to stop for a stop sign. Her vehicle was struck by a 2009 Subaru Legacy operated by Marianne T. Ogozalek, 75, of Lansford, who was southbound on Market Street. The front of the Subaru struck the right front of the Dodge. After impact the Subaru and Dodge traveled in a southeast direction through the intersection and came to final rest along the north berm of Second Street facing southeast. Houser, her passenger Richard F. Houser, 54, same address, and Ogozalek, were all not injured.
Troopers cited Houser for a stop sign/yield sign violation.
The second crash occurred at 11:25 a.m. on Saturday along Cressona Road in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Steven M. Smith, 31, of Pottsville, was operating a 2001 Suzuki GSX motorcycle northbound when a deer entered the road in front of him. The front end of the bike struck and killed the deer. After impact the bike slid uphill on its side for about 200 feet before coming to rest in the middle of the road facing northwest.
Smith refused medical attention. The bike was removed from the road with Smith making his own arrangements to have it towed.
Troopers cited Smith for registration and certificate of title required.
