Schuylkill fire left 5 homeless, ruled accidental
A fire that destroyed a home and left five people homeless on Thursday morning has been ruled accidental.
State police fire marshal Trooper Joseph W. Hall, of the Frackville barracks, said the fire was discovered about 5:18 a.m. at 222 S. Jarin St., Shenandoah. Firefighters from surrounding communities assisted Shenandoah firefighters in extinguishing the blaze.
Hall said three adults and two children, a boy and a girl, both age 10, were able to flee the building unharmed.
He said the fire originated in a second-floor bedroom and was due to an electrical problem. Hall noted the residence at 220 S. Jardin St., sustained minor fire, smoke and water damage.
