Schuylkill Indivisible meets with Meuser staff
Members of the progressive group Schuylkill Indivisible met with John Gower and Katie Heatherington-Cunfer, deputy district director for Rep. Dan Meuser, recently to discuss concerns about Social Security, health care, the ballooning national debt and deficit, and the divisive political climate.
The Indivisible members also spoke about the recent U.S. House vote on HR1, a comprehensive bill addressing such issues as voting rights, campaign finance reform and redistricting.
Members of the group expressed disappointment that Meuser’s response on the floor of the House was very partisan and divisive in nature. The group stressed that citizens want representatives to work together.
The deputy district directors said the congressman’s team is interested in hearing from constituents. He is working with local leaders to address the opioid crisis and is also focusing on local revitalization efforts and helping areas hurt by flooding, they said. Recently, his staffers met with a local climate change group.
Both the Indivisible members and the congressman’s deputy directors agreed that the meeting was a good first step to open communication and work toward finding common ground. The group hopes to hear plans for a town hall and is looking forward to a meeting with Meuser during the week of April 22, when he is in the district.
