A Schuylkill County man admitted in Carbon County court on Monday to sexually assaulting a young girl over two decades ago and is now facing a long state prison term.

David Hunsicker Jr., 53, of Frackville, pleaded guilty before Judge Steven R. Serfass to one count each of rape of a person under 13, a felony 1; sexual assault, felony 2; and indecent assault of a person under 14, a misdemeanor 2.

Serfass told Hunsicker that for the rape count he faces a standard range sentence of somewhere between 45 and 63 months in prison up to a maximum of 15 years.

Jim Thorpe police charged Hunsicker with repeatedly raping a child two decades ago. At the time, the victim was between 5-9 years old and a Jim Thorpe resident.

The reported assaults occurred in a home on the 200 block of North Street.

In April the victim came forward and met with Jim Thorpe police and said Hunsicker had raped her. She said the assaults took place in the attic, basement and storage area of the home.

When police asked Hunsicker about the victim’s allegations, he reportedly said, “It may or may not have happened, I don’t remember because I was on heavy drugs and alcohol.”

Hunsicker claimed that when the girl was 9 years old, she had inappropriately touched him in the bedroom of the home. He said he told her to stop twice. He said he was sorry that it happened.

He also admitted to inappropriately touching the girl.

At the time of the alleged assaults, Hunsicker was between 26 and 31 years old.

Hunsicker has been in prison since his arrest on the charges. After assistant District Attorney Joseph D. Perilli read into the record the police report, Serfass asked if the facts as stated were true. Hunsicker simply said, “yes.”

Sentencing was deferred as Serfass ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report. Sentencing will occur early next year.
