Schuylkill OKs street contract

Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday approved a $184,745 contract with M&J Excavation, Bloomsburg, to improve Tamaqua streets.

M&J was the lower of two bidders for the two Community Development Block Grant projects.

The company offered a base bid of $161,995 and an alternate bid of $11,110.

For the first project, the base bid is for work on Swatara Street, from Broad to Lafayette. It includes full depth reconstruction from Broad to Rowe, replacement of the curb cut ramps on Swatara and Rowe; and base repair (patching), curb line milling and a bituminous overlay from Rowe to Lafayette.

On Swatara Street from Lafayette to Jerome, and Jerome Street from Swatara to Pitt, the work involves base repair (patching), milling, bituminous overlay and curb ramps.

The alternate bid is for work on Lafayette Street from Swatara to Pitt. The work includes base repair (patching), curb line milling and a bituminous overlay.

Project 2 is curb ramp construction for the ramp in front of the borough building on the west side of the driveway.
