Schuylkill opens snow removal bids
It took a second request for bids, but the county received two proposals for snow plowing and hauling at the Schuylkill Courthouse and other properties. Bids were opened before the commissioners meeting Wednesday.
The bidders are Boyle Electro-Mechanical, Tamaqua, and Schuylkill Paving, Schuylkill Haven. Each company bid an hourly rate using various equipment, such as plow trucks, snowblowers and dump trucks. County Administrator Gary Bender said bids would be reviewed and awarded at a later date.
In other action, on the recommendation of Schuylkill County Treasurer Linda Marchalk, the commissioners approved establishing an escrow account for Mount Carbon borough. After the meeting, Marchalk explained that the borough no longer has a functioning borough council, and the Schuylkill County solicitor’s office advised setting up an escrow account, which will be at M&T Bank.
“The initial deposit will be the uncashed checks from the Mount Carbon tax collector account, and the road and school account,” Marchalk said. “Once we get authority to do so, we will disperse the funds where they should go.”
Mount Carbon is a borough in Schuylkill County, just south of Pottsville. It was formed from North Manheim Township in 1864. The smallest municipality in Schuylkill County, its population was 91 in the 2010 census.
The commissioners awarded a $98,151 contract to Mohawk Contracting & Development, Allentown, for the Community Development Storm Water project on Sherman Street, McAdoo.
The commissioners also approved an annual $22,300 maintenance payment to ESRI, a company that maintains desktop and server software used by the county.
