Schuylkill write-ins to appear on November ballot

Published August 16. 2019 02:37PM

Three Schuylkill County residents who ran as write-in candidates in the primary will appear on the ballot for the November general election. Under the Pennsylvania election code, to win a nomination by a write-in vote for borough offices, the minimum of 10 votes are needed to get their name on the ballot for the general election.

Officials from the county Board of Elections also require candidates who receive the minimum 10 votes to fill out additional paperwork, including address and contact information. The write-in candidate also must affirm that they want to be on the ballot.

In Schuylkill Township, incumbent Supervisor Charles Fayash defeated challenger Coleen Sadusky by 10 votes in the primary, but Sadusky received enough write-in votes on the Democrat side to get the nomination there. Sadusky and Fayash will vie for one seat, a six-year term.

In Coaldale, each political party put forth three candidates and all six advanced through the primary. There are four seats available for four-year terms.

On the Republican side, the candidates are Wayne Figner, Claire Remington, and Mary Ann Markley; on the Democratic side, the candidates are Pauline McNavage, Yvonne Stoffey and Chad Gerber. There will be a seventh person vying for a position, write-in candidate Kenneth Hankey Jr., who is cross-filed.

In Walker Township, there were no candidates on the primary ballot for one six-year seat, but write-in candidate Kent Heisler, a Republican, will be on the November ballot. In Walker, there were 108 Republican write-in votes and 12 Democrat write-in votes; only Heisler emerged as an affirmed candidate.
