This past summer, landscaping work could be seen at the Orioles Nest 183’s Community Center in Lehighton.

Jordan Cook, Eagle Scout from Troop 187 in Lehighton, planned, organized and executed the project with others helping him, including his family, friends and fellow Scouts.

He began his project on June 7 after obtaining the approvals of the Minsi Trails Council North Valley District, Troop 187’s Committee, and the Orioles Nest 183’s board. His project was completed on July 26.

While planning his project, Dennis Damara and Robert Moyer helped him in deciding the placement of the shrubbery.

All plants, soil and mulch were purchased through Seltzers Nursery in Franklin Township. Tim Seltzers also shared some of his professional knowledge and experience with Jordan to make the project a huge success.

With the help of his team, Cook planted 51 shrubs and one flowering crabapple. Some of the shrubs were golden mop cypress, hydrangea, azaleas, Helleri holly, and dwarf Alberta Spruce. They also placed topsoil, added landscape fabric and mulched the area once everything else was complete.

Cook had a total of 57 merit badges when he received his Eagle and has earned seven palms.

Cook is very active in his community and participates in more than 12 extracurricular programs at school ranging from Lehighton Area Indian mascot to captain of the boys soccer team and team leader of the Science Olympiad team.

Cook also is an altar server at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Lehighton.

Cook would like to thank his parents, Tod and Suellen Cook; his sister, Susan; Robert Moyer; Dennis Damara; the Fraternal Order of the Orioles; Scouts of Troop 187; the late Rev. Mike Ahrensfield, former pastor of SS. Peter and Paul Church; and all of those who have helped him along his path leading to his Eagle Scout project.

His Court of Honor will be held later this month.
