Scranton man killed in crash on turnpike

A Scranton man was killed in a three-vehicle crash that occurred just before midnight Tuesday along the Northeastern Extension of the turnpike in Parryville, Carbon County.

State police at the Pocono barracks declined to name the victim pending the notification of next of kin, but indicated he was 50 years old.

According to troopers, Joseph L. Persico, 68, of Shavertown, Luzerne County, was operating a 2015 Audi A4 southbound in the northbound lane while Pan Tso, 39, of Wilmington, Pa., and the victim, were both northbound in the right lane. The Audi struck the victim’s 2003 Honda Civic head-on in the right lane. After impact Tso’s 2018 Toyota Corolla struck the victim’s vehicle.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Persico and Tso were injured and taken to the St. Luke’s Hospital Gnaden Huetten campus.
