n Tuesday, the grunge, nu-metal rock band, Seether, comes to the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg in support of its hardest-hitting album yet — “Poison the Parish.”

The stop is part of its 18-show stint along the East Coast.

“The Midwest and Northeast are great rock audiences,” said Seether drummer John Humphrey.

Humphrey, along with lead vocalist/guitarist Shaun Morgan and bassist Dale Stewart, will be joined by Clint Lowery, lead guitarist for the alternative metal band Sevendust.

“Lowery is playing with us live,” said Humphrey. “I don’t think the band has ever sounded as good live.”

Humphrey said the group loves its international crowds as much as coming back to the states.

“Shaun always had the international picture in mind. We have a dedicated fan base,” he said.

“Seether is a touring band. Anytime we put out an album we have an 18-month touring cycle. That’s what it’s about for us and always has been.”

This time around the band is playing tracks from a self-produced recording.

According to Humphrey, the biggest changes is in the band’s creation process.

“It’s the first one Shaun has produced. We had a lot of freedom to be ourselves,” he said.

For the two released singles, “Let You Down” and “Betray and Degrade,” the band retains its post- grunge heavy metal-esque angst guitar and steady, unrelenting percussion.

The lyrics share the disappointment in both the state of the outer and inner world inside Morgan’s head.

Morgan, along with Stewart, made his way to the United States in 2002 after forming the band in 1999 in South Africa under the name Saron Gas.

Humphrey, a Midwestern rocker, signed on in 2003.

For its newest album, the group used Morgan’s own new label, Canine Riot Records, and worked closely with former Slayer and Deftones engineer and mixer Matt Hyde at Blackbird Studio in Nashville.

“We recorded it old school. We got into a garage band space for practice and then got into the studio and rocked it out in two weeks. The studio is beautiful, the ceilings could be lifted and adjusted for the sound,” he said.

“The album has a very live feel. We recorded it before where it was all live, in the same room playing live tighter. But with this album, Shaun recorded the demos and they played those through phones so he could be in the producer’s booth. I did the drums that way and the guys overdubbed their parts.”

As a heavy rocker, Humphrey’s drum kit is made up of several floor toms, large cymbals and one snare.

“I’m just a basic rock drummer,” he said.

Humphrey also plays with The Nixons, where he employs the same steady power-backed rhythm section.

“With Seether, all the members who’ve been together for 14 years have a chemistry, no matter what kit you put me on. I play with two great bands, each have the same drum set up. Stylistically, I play the way I play,” he said.

Humphrey said the crowd should come ready for a high-energy show.

“We mix it up. We will throw in some surprises,” he said.

While the band will play its hits, the drummer promises some ear candy for longtime fans.

“We like to have fun too, and we have fans who’ve been with us a long time, so we will throw in some deeper cuts. It’s going to be a good live show. The band is firing on all pistons right now,” he said.
