The Carbon County Senior Games help keep area seniors young at heart and light on their feet.

Each year, more than 200 men and women around the county come out to throw, shoot, dance and putt their way into the winner’s circle.

One week of competition is in the books and the South Carbon County seniors, comprised of Lehighton and Palmerton, are back in the lead with a combined score of 369.

But, don’t count out the North Carbon County seniors, made up of Jim Thorpe, Panther Valley and Weatherly, have a combined score of 352.

They still have time to make a comeback next week during week two of the games.

The wet weather this week forced the senior games coordinators to shift around events that were planned for Friday and Monday, meaning participants bowled and ping ponged instead of putted their way to medals to finish out the week.

Friday’s events included bowling, held at Cypress Lanes and Fritz Lanes and Pro Shop, both in Lehighton, and Ping-Pong at the Lehighton Recreation Center.
