Sewage plans to be discussed in S. Hill

Published December 18. 2018 12:16PM

A joint meeting of three borough councils, two water authorities and a joint sewer authority has been called in the Panther Valley to discuss a mandated — and likely expensive — sewage facilities plan.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 in the Hilltop Community Center. In the event of hazardous weather, the meeting will be held on Jan. 24.

The sewage facilities plan is a mandate by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to create a timetable for updating municipal systems and treatment plants.

The letter about the meeting was sent to borough councils in Coaldale, Lansford and Summit Hill, in addition to the Lansford Coaldale Joint Water Authority and the Summit Hill Water Authority.

It was sent by the Coaldale Lansford Summit Hill Sewer Authority.

Marc Collevechio, chairman of the joint sewer authority, said that the meeting has been called to inform the local officials what was discussed at a meeting the joint sewer authority had with the DEP on Dec. 3.

“This meeting is to discuss status of the 537 plan and direction needed to take the projected time frame,” the letter says.

Summit Hill Borough Council members acknowledged on Monday that they received the letter but didn’t comment any further.

The borough is under a moratorium by the DEP for new central sewage system connections.

In other matters:

• The council agreed to meet on the fourth Monday of each month in 2019 except May and December when the meetings will be on the third Monday due to holidays.

• The council hired Mary Ann Eickhoff as an assistant secretary/treasurer at a rate of $11 per hour.
