Signs of the season

  • Empty

The trees around Mauch Chunk Lake are ablaze with fall colors. According to the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau, the colors should be peaking by Sunday. Black birch continues to be the most common color as almost all of them have changed to bright yellow. More red maple have joined the scene with many different colors from red, orange and yellow. Hickory turns to a bright gold. Sassafras provides some yellow and orange, along with the orange of black gum. In the understory, look for witch hazel with yellow foliage along with their yellow flower (the latest flower of the year). BOB FORD/TIMES NEWS
