Silver Valley Road in Chestnuthill to remain closed
At Tuesday evening’s Board of Supervisor’s meeting in Chestnuthill Township, supervisors said a bridge on the section of Silver Valley Road failed inspection and has a major structural defect, which means that the bridge cannot be opened until it is repaired.
The bridge is not scheduled for repair this year, but rather Evergreen Hollow Culvert is on the schedule because it serves a greater need in the township. The supervisors approved the sending out of bid packages for Evergreen Hollow on Tuesday.
The section of Silver Valley road that is closed is located a half mile north of Route 209. The suggested detour is to take Route 715 to Cottontail Lane to avoid the closure. The bridge is on the township’s list for repair but may not be completed for two to three years.
On Tuesday evening West End Parks and Open Spaces Executive Director Bernie Kozen told supervisors that construction on the new dog park has begun at the park off Merwine Hilltop Road. There will be three separate spaces within the dog park where dogs will be separated by size.
Updates on all of the park activities can be found at www.weposc.org.
The supervisors agreed to submit a letter in support of Polk Township’s grant application for a walking trail in the new park on Polk Township Road.
Brad Yockum was appointed to the Chestnuthill Planning Commission to fulfill the term of Sherry Harding.
The Mount Effort Shopping Plaza Preliminary Land Development Plan is expected to be on next month’s agenda.
