During Slatington’s monthly borough council meeting, Police Chief David Rachman, updated council and residents on the speeding issue on South Second Street.

“The traffic was monitored in late afternoon, early evening,” he said.

During the monitoring, only a few tickets were issued, Rachman said.

“Everything was above board, but it could be because we were there. Either way, it helped and we’ll keep an eye on the area,” he said.

Rachman told council a work order was issued for painting parking spots on the 400 block of the street.

Michael Concilio was added to the borough police roster during the meeting as the board voted to raise the force’s part-time police officers’ rate from $17.51 to $19 an hour to begin June 24.

Per Slatington Fire Department Chief Jason Nicholas’ recommendation, David Vaillette was officially named the borough’s Fire Police captain.

Council voted to accept lowest bidder, S&G Asphalt Service LLC’s, estimate of $74,664 for Slatington’s Fourth Street Improvements to be paid for by a 2017 Community Block Development Grant.
