Snow impacting after school commute

Published December 15. 2017 05:24PM

The quick afternoon snow showers that blanketed most of the region had an impact on the ride home for some school children in the region.

Pleasant Valley School District reported that the elementary and intermediate schools were running about 40 minutes behind schedule this afternoon.

“The drivers reported that the high school and middle school kids got home OK and that the roads are passable,” said Josh Krebs, director of support services for the district at 4:30 Friday afternoon.

“We are loading up the intermediate school as we speak and we are about 40 minutes late but it looks like we shouldn’t have any problems from here.”

Krebs noted that the snow had already stopped in Polk Township.

The last bus left Pleasant Valley Elementary just before 5 p.m., according to an automated call from elementary Co-Principal Barbara Bradley.

Weatherly Area School District also informed parents that the buses were running behind schedule.

Weatherly, Pleasant Valley and Panther Valley districts canceled after-school activities.

A few schools canceled basketball games.

Interchange Road was blocked at Hemlock Street in Franklin Township by disabled vehicle. In Jim Thorpe, a crash was reported at the 903 bridge.

Some areas received more than 2 inches of snow.
