State police at Lehighton — DUI
Five people are facing driving under the influence charges as a result of regular patrols conducted by state police at the Lehighton barracks. Police did not release the names of those involved.
• Police said a 37-year-old Kunkletown woman who was observed committing a traffic infraction was found to be under the influence of drugs and had prescription drugs in her vehicle. She was stopped at 8:54 p.m. Feb. 20 in the area of Route 534, north of Route 209 and south of Beltzville Drive in Polk Township. Police said the woman refused to submit to a blood test.
• The second incident happened at 1:38 a.m. Friday on Old Route 115 in Hamilton Township. Police said a 22-year-old man was stopped for a violation and it was determined he was under the influence. He was transported to the Monroe County DUI Center to submit to a blood test, the results of which are pending.
• A 57-year-old Allentown man who was pulled over for speeding (62 mph in a 45 mph zone) at 570 Interchange Road in Franklin Township was arrested after police detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle. He was stopped just north of Rock Street at 10 a.m. Monday.
Police said the driver admitted to smoking marijuana. A subsequent pat-down search yielded a container of suspected marijuana and a search of the vehicle resulted in police finding more marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The man was taken into custody and submitted to a blood test.
• Police arrested a 61-year-old Eldred Township man for driving under the influence of a controlled substance at 12:06 p.m. Monday. Police said he was stopped at a regulatory checkpoint. The investigation also revealed he was in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
• A second regulatory checkpoint stop made by officers at 1:41 p.m. Monday at 490 Kunkletown Road, Eldred Township, resulted in two people being charged, including a 50-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man, both from Saylorsburg.
Police said the man was found to be in possession of illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia, as well as having an active warrant out for his arrest in Centre County. The woman was also found to be in possession of illegal narcotics.
