State police at Lehighton investigated a one-vehicle crash at 9:22 a.m. March 1 along Jonas Road in Polk Township, Monroe County.

Troopers said Douglas J. Haines, 18, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse eastbound too fast for road conditions, which were slushy with snow falling. Haines attempted to slow down by applying his brakes and lost control. The car traveled over the double yellow line into the left lane and onto the left shoulder where it struck a tree and came to rest.

Haines sustained a minor injury. He was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

A Carbon County driver is facing a driving under the influence charge following a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 12:23 p.m. Sunday along Main Road in Franklin Township.

State police at Lehighton said John J. Pezzeca, 39, of Lehighton, was driving a 2002 Honda Civic northbound when the vehicle struck a curb which deflated the front and rear passenger side tires. After impact, the Civic remained on the roadway.

Troopers said Pezzeca was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI. The Civic was towed from the scene.
