State police at Stroudsburg report on traffic incidents
State police at Stroudsburg reported on the following traffic incidents:
• A 37-year-old man from the Bronx, New York, was arrested by state police for driving under the influence of alcohol after his vehicle broke down on Interstate 80 westbound in Pocono Township. Police said they stopped to assist the man when his 2006 Honda Odyssey minivan broke down, at which time police viewed alcohol and determined the man was driving while intoxicated. The incident took place at 3:35 a.m. Sept. 2.
• Scott L. Nichols, 65, of Stroudsburg, is facing charges of driving under the influence after a one-vehicle crash at 10:03 a.m. Sunday on Hickory Valley Road (Route 209) in Hamilton Township. Police said they responded to a one-vehicle crash at that location and found a vehicle disabled in the right lane of traffic after having struck a tree head-on off the left lane. There were no injuries. Nichols was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI.
• Stephan Carbonara, 42, of Henryville, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol following a sobriety checkpoint conducted by state police at 10:43 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Milford and Scheller roads in Smithfield Township. Police said after it was discovered Carbonara was under the influence of alcohol, he was taken into custody and transported to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, for processing. The charges will be filed pending blood test results, police said.
• A traffic stop made by state police at 11:48 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Paradise Trail and Milford Road in East Stroudsburg resulted in a 38-year-old East Stroudsburg man being taken into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said they discovered the man was under the influence of alcohol and took him into custody. He was transported to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, for processing. The charges will be filed pending blood test results, police said.
• A 40-year-old Tobyhanna man is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence of a controlled substance after state police made a traffic stop at 10:26 p.m. Sunday in Hamilton Township. Police said the man was stopped for Motor Vehicle Code violations, after which time police found him to be driving while impaired and in possession of the drugs and paraphernalia. He was taken into custody and transported to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, for processing.
