Suicide awareness events scheduled
The Link for Suicide Awareness and Prevention in Carbon and Schuylkill Counties will host three upcoming events.
The annual awareness walk, “The Link at the Lake,” will be held Sunday at Mauch Chunk Lake Park, 625 Lentz Trail in Jim Thorpe. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the walk set to step off at 10 a.m.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the movie “Grease.” The Link will sponsor a “Grease is the Word Movie Day” on Oct. 28 at the Angela Triplex theater in Coaldale. Matinee time will be 3 p.m. Greaser and Pink Lady attire, along with singing and dancing, are encouraged.
The annual lip sync contest, “Shine Like the Star You Are,” will be held on Dec. 1 at Schick’s Cafe Calcutta on Mauch Chunk Street in Tamaqua. Check-in will begin at 9 p.m.
Proceeds from all three events will benefit efforts to increase awareness of suicide and ways to help.
