Suicide prevention sessions planned at Hope & Coffee

Published August 01. 2018 02:40PM

Suicide is preventable, and anyone can make a difference.

Hope & Coffee in Tamaqua will host two sessions on ways to help those who may feel that suicide is the only answer.

At 6 p.m. on Aug. 10, there will be a 90-minute info session on saving lives from suicide. The suicideTALK program is run through the Living Works organization, and is designed to build suicide awareness, encourages open discussion about suicide and helps people take the first step toward suicide prevention.

SuicideTALK is open to anyone 15 years or older. The event is free but space is limited.

At noon on Aug. 11, the coffee house will hold a three-hour training in suicide alertness skills called safeTALK.

In this program, you will learn four basic steps to create a lifesaving connection for people with thoughts of suicide.

This training is open to anyone 16 years and older and is appropriate for professionals and the general public. The cost of the safeTALK event is $10 cash.

Only 20 spaces are available.

To inquire or register for either or both of these sessions, call Loren at 570-225-7600 or drop in at Hope and Coffee, 137 Pine St., Tamaqua.

Neither of these trainings are appropriate for people who have recently lost someone to suicide.
