Summit Hill man admits to assault, other counts

A Summit Hill man pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Monday to assault and other counts for an incident that occurred last year with rape and other counts dropped.

Cody Lewis, 23, pleaded guilty to counts of false imprisonment, simple assault and criminal mischief before Judge Steven R. Serfass. In exchange for the plea charges of rape by threat of forcible compulsion, terroristic threats, indecent assault and harassment were dropped.

A 23-year-old woman contacted Jim Thorpe police in July stating she was assaulted by Lewis inside the Union Publick House, 212 Center St., and then at a residence in the borough.

According to the police report, Lewis had taken the woman’s cellphone and threw it to the ground, damaging it. He then confronted her by pressing her against a wall in the ladies’ room area of the pub and seeking sex and attempting to kiss her. The police report states he pulled her hair and pushed her against a wall. It was indicated that the two had a prior relationship.

First Assistant District Attorney Michael S. Greek said the victim agreed to the plea agreement. The plea agreement also calls for a probationary sentence to be imposed, but that would be up to Serfass.

Serfass deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.
